Preserving Payson Park: A Community's Commitment

Updated: May 3

Welcome to the heart of East Deering, Portland, Maine, where a community's commitment to preserving its natural beauty shines bright. Nestled within this vibrant neighborhood is Payson Park, a green oasis that serves as a gathering space for residents, young and old, to connect with nature and each other.

Through a collective effort that brings together locals, businesses, and organizations, the Friends of Payson Park organize various events and volunteer activities to ensure that the park's natural beauty and recreational opportunities remain intact.

One of the organization's signature events is the monthly walk in the park held on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 9 am. This leisurely stroll through the park not only allows participants to appreciate the beauty of their surroundings but also fosters a sense of community among neighbors. Additionally, the biannual park cleanup brings together volunteers to ensure that Payson Park remains a clean and welcoming space for all.

In addition to their community events, the Friends of Payson Park also work closely with the city to advocate for initiatives that benefit the park and its visitors. By acting as a liaison between the community and local authorities, the organization ensures that the interests of park-goers are represented and that the park continues to thrive.
